Homeschooling in Rabat
Is it legal to homeschool in Morocco?
Yes as long as it meets certain requirements. Although schooling is mandatory for all children aged 4 through 16 years of age, all children who follow a recognized school curriculum are considered to be in school, whether they attend a traditional brick and mortar school, an online school, or study at home under the supervision of their parents with or without the support of tutors. To comply with the law, students at the Rabat Academy must chose to take courses based on the globally recognized Cambridge International Curriculum which is based on the English National Curriculum or our WASC and NCAA accredited US curriculum.
Who can study at Rabat Academy?
Rabat Academy offers personalized education for students 11 and older who want support for their academics and access to extra-curriculars as well as social interaction with peers not available at home. As Rabat Academy is not a school but simply an academic support center, foreign students may enroll regardless of visa or residency status. To enroll, simply contact us.
How many subjects can a student take and are any compulsory?
Homeschooled students at Rabat Academy may take as many - or as few - subjects as they wish. None are mandatory except for students preparing the IGCSE (who must take a minimum of 5 subjects including math, science, and English) and A levels (a minimum of 3 subjects). The same applies to students who wish to obtain a US high school degree. To graduate, students must complete all high school credit requirements including: English Language Arts (4.0 credits) History / Social Studies (4.0 credits) Mathematics (4.0 credits) Science (3.0 credits) Fine Arts (1.0 credit) Language Other Than English (2.0 credits) Health and P.E. Rabat Academy issues transcripts for courses taken. Credits obtained for our courses can be transferred to any accredited US school.
What qualifications do students receive at Rabat Academy?
For Lower Secondary or middle school students, we provide a certificate of enrollment as well as an end-of-course report or transcript based on the student’s chosen subjects. IGCSE or A level students receive a certificate from the Cambridge (CAIE) examination board. The certificate will indicate the grades that the student has obtained in each subject. Students enrolled in our US curriculum courses are eligible for a US high school diploma once they complete all high school requirements including: English Language Arts (4.0 credits) History / Social Studies (4.0 credits) Mathematics (4.0 credits) Science (3.0 credits) Fine Arts (1.0 credit) Language Other Than English (2.0 credits) Health and P.E. Where will I take my IGCSE or A Level exams?
If you wish to take your examinations in Rabat, we will assist you in registering as a private candidate at one of Rabat's CAIE examination center. Note that CAIE examination centers are available worldwide so worldschoolers can plan to study at the Rabat Academy while in Morocco and take their exams in a different country.
Can I pursue a university education in Morocco with A levels or a US High School Diploma?
YES! Morocco recognizes A-levels and US high school diplomas as equivalent to a Moroccan Baccalaureate. Qualifications from CAIE are globally recognized qualifications allowing students to attend the best universities worldwide.
Do you offer scheduled online lessons?
Our primary aim is to provide a flexible, enjoyable, and varied approach to studying that helps develop independent learners. Although we provide online course materials, our courses do not include scheduled online lessons, as students work through the materials at their own pace. All Rabat Academy courses feature a wide variety of educational and interactive materials including educational videos and AI supported apps, as well as real world board-games, textbooks, and hands on projects and experimentation.
